ThreeTags – offline access

You can now use threetags.com offline, i.e. when you are not connected to the Internet. Google Gears is used to provide offline functionality, so only the following platforms and browsers are currently supported:

Microsoft Windows:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome

Mac:

  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox

Linux:

  • Mozilla Firefox

Notes

  1. You might want to enable offline access in order to increase the responsiveness of the service: with code and data served locally, encryption/decryption and server communication are done in the background, so you don't have to wait for long notes to load.
  2. To ensure this responsiveness, Gears database stores user data unencrypted, so do not enable offline access mode on public or otherwise 'unsafe' computers.
  3. Please note that each browser has its own Gears store, so you can have offline access enabled in Google Chrome, for example, but not in Mozilla Firefox. And if you enable offline access in both browsers, they will have separate databases, so changes in one will not be visible in the other without synchronization with the server.
  4. With offline access enabled, local data/code is used even if you are online. So when a new version of our service is published, all locally stored pages/code will need to be updated. You will be presented with an option to "clean" your local data, and you will need to enable offline access again after that.
